Drivers Education

This is our family's favorite part in your family's driving journey. Where our partnership begins and we gain the opportunity to not only aid in your new driver's confidence; but to prosper and build their skills to last a lifetime. Per the state of Ohio, drivers' education consists of two parts: 24 hours of classroom (online or in person) and 8 hours of behind the wheel. Teens must complete the 24-hour classroom portion of prior to starting their 8 hours of in-cars. Please see information for both options below.

Traditional Classroom

Instructor, Dennis Bowman and his highly trained team of instructors at 1st Choice Driving Academy go out of their way to engage the students and inspire them to inquire and learn within the classroom. This class consists of 10 units of state provided curriculum that can be completed in 8 -3-hour classes. The classes are Monday through Thursday (with exceptions to holidays) for two weeks from 4:00pm to 7:15pm and run on a rolling schedule.  We do ask for a 2-week commitment to get the classes completed.  Class 1 must be the first attended class and class 8 must be the last attended class. Classroom is scheduled and reserved by the office after payment and registration is received. **This package includes the 8 hours of behind the wheel**

NOTICE: A parent/student class orientation is held on the first day of class and MUST be attended by a parent and the student. Orientation is approximately 4:00pm to 4:30pm; this is where parents will complete registration and all state paperwork. If the Class Orientation cannot be attended by a parent/legal guardian, please notify the office prior to the 1st class date to make other arrangements.

8 hours Behind the Wheel (In-car)

Once a student has completed their 24 hours of classroom and has completed a minimum of 20 hours of drive time with a parent/legal guardian; they are ready to begin their 8 hours of in-car instruction. At 1st Choice, students are placed on our in-car waitlist in order of payment date with their classroom portion (online or in person) having no bearing until it is their turn to schedule in-cars. This means we do NOT require online students to have their program completed prior to signing up for in-cars. Our in-car waitlist can be 4-8 weeks. We will break the 8 hours of behind the wheel into four, two hour in-car lessons. We drive seven days a week during the school year from sunup to sundown. We'll aim to schedule in-cars two a week for two weeks or one a week for four weeks; however, this is up to you as you'll pick the dates/times for each of your students' lessons.
